Currently, Media Center will rip with MakeMKV using the default MakeMKV profile. Some settings will need to be set in MakeMKV. Multiple optical drives are supported and can be ripped from simultaneously. The ripped files will be saved to the appropriate folder set in Media Center. Check the titles in the dialog to select which to rip and click OK to start ripping with MakeMKV. When it's done, Media Center will create a dialog displaying the list of titles. Clicking 'Rip with MakeMKV' will send a command to open and scan the disc for titles. If the conditions are met, a new button will appear in the Rip Disc action window to 'Rip with MakeMKV'. JRiver Media Center will check to make sure the appropriate version of MakeMKV is present. To rip using MakeMKV, click on 'Rip Disc' in the Action Window. You must have MakeMKV version 1.16.0 or later installed. This option is currently only available on the Windows version. So you have a good 1080p video with Dolby ATMOS soundtrack.JRiver Media Center 28 for Windows has a new option to rip DVDs and Blu-Ray with MakeMKV if MakeMKV is installed on the machine. You can even rip both to disk, and use MKVToolsNix to transfer over the ATMOS soundtrack that you tend to get on the 4k version. Thankfully almost all the 4k discs I've bought came with a standard blu-ray as well, so that's what I backup to plex.

There are probably better tools than Handbrake for 4k/UHD sources, I haven't had time to investigate and experiment. Running through Handbrake I was getting about 4 frames a second, compared to ~70 for a standard blu-ray. They can be 50-80GB in size, so compression really is a necessary. HOWEVER, although I can rip 4k disks, I haven't found a good process for compressing them. It's a good drive, I've ripped over 200 blu rays with it without issue, and it is a fair bit faster than the previous drive. It is a LG BH16NS40 with custom firmware. I got in touch with the guy from this MakeMKV thread, and purchased one for just under £120. Just saw a notification, happy to report back: The one above didn't work for UHD disks.
